Notes from PI Telecon, 30 July 2004

From Dan K.:
I propose today to review the proposed speaking assignments and lock them in regarding timing and coverage (e.g., how will the group elect to present Bob's material since he can't attend even in virtual mode) as well as interrelatedness.

I then propose to have two subsequent PI meetings to review the presentations together at Big Sky: Monday night preview and Tuesday night dress rehearsal.

Further Discussions:
Some discussion about Bob Full not being able to brief at a given time - but could at a different time.

Al - concerned that we detail how the dry adhesion fits in with the development of the RiSE? platform.

Al talks about development of robot body - down towards the feet.
Kellar and Ron talk biology and dry adhesion.
Mark picks up with feet and development from Tether bot. Dan still concerned about relationship of "forward looking bot designs" between Stanford and BDI??

Al - toybot feet are single purpose/single function - key technology is designed local compliance to grab the wall.

Dan - concerned that the toybot is the closest thing that we'll be projecting towards the October deliverable.

  • how this ties to next Rise platform
  • In reality, spiny- and sticky- bots are methods to develop "key feet principles" which could be applied on RiSE? without drastic changes to the overall RiSE? design.

Pictures of sticky-bot to Ron - story for co-fabrication efforts based on dry adhesive samples.

Martin - bringing a "dead" robot with Jonathan Amory? Maybe leave it at BDI for planned testing...

Stanford bringing our "thing-a-ma-bobs?" - Dan thinks it'll be useful to bring it.

Discussion between Kellar and Dan regarding Mat Sci approach - basically where to go from here on material science.
