A picture of the prototype SDM BigToe

  • uses either size 8 or size 10 fishing hooks bent and
  • slightly dulled to limit scratching capability
  • dulling also prevents tearing away small pieces of stucco
  • full load is about 600g in the vertical direction
  • stretches 1.5 cm at full load
  • 35A flexures
  • rear flexure thicker than front buckling flexure (2mm vs. 1mm)
  • rear flexure very stiff against moments--only the front of the claw has compliance by design
  • future versions will not have clay still stuck around the claw
