Thor's email with details about the NIH R01 Proposal Call

Mark and Oussama, Here is a potential grant mechanism that might fund our research:

Bioengineering Research Partnerships (BRP) (R01) PAR-07-352 NIBIB, NCI, NEI, NHLBI, NHGRI, NIA, NIAMS, NICHD, NIDA, NIDCD, NIDCR, NIEHS, NINDS Purpose: to support Bioengineering Research Partnerships (BRPs) for basic, applied, and translational multi-disciplinary research that addresses important biological or medical research problems. In the context of this program, a partnership is a multi-disciplinary research team that applies an integrative, systems approach to develop knowledge and/or methods to prevent, detect, diagnose, or treat disease or to understand health and behavior. The partnership must operate according to a clear leadership plan and include appropriate bioengineering or allied quantitative sciences in combination with biomedical and/or clinical components. Remaining standard R01 deadlines: Oct. 5, 2009 and Feb. 5, 2010 Remaining standard AIDS/AIDS related deadline: Jan. 7, 2010 and May 7, 2010 Expiration Date: May 8, 2010 http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/pa-files/PAR-07-352.html

The deadline in Feb will approach faster than we would like, so we should probably meet sometime to discuss.

General Ideas

Use Khatib's marker-robot algorithm to select a specific gait to produce a desired KAM based on minimizing metabolic cost (total energy consumption) and overall gait change (minimize overall changes from baseline gait). These two minimizing factors could be weighted - as a first pass maybe weight them equally.
